Swan Song

The cygnets have now reached the time to depart from their parents. Though they are not quite there yet, it will not be long.

Over the last few weeks we have witnessed greyish brown feathers turn into the beautiful white plumage of an adult swan.

There has been lots of preparation and they are being encouraged by the adult female swan to practice take off and, with limited space, they have cleverly worked out to do this diagonally across the upper pond.

The other day as I was getting my camera ready to take some shots, one of the young swans thought they would show off and flew towards me. I was quite impressed and got a great shot too.

I am sure once they go we will miss them all, but hopefully the adults will stay and have more young next year.
